The Allagash Abductions

Disputed Allagash, Maine, USA · August 1976

The Allagash Case, 1976: UFO Abducted Four StudentsFenômenos Inexplicáveis

The account

Four friends on a night fishing trip saw a sphere of light, lost track of time, and years later remembered an abduction.

What investigators found

The abduction memories came through hypnosis more than a decade later, which makes the account weak in the eyes of skeptics.

The story

In August 1976, four young men, including twins Jim and Jack Weiner, were on a canoe trip through the Allagash wilderness in northern Maine. On a night fishing outing, they said, they saw a large glowing sphere over the lake. When they got back to camp, the campfire, which should have lasted for hours, had already burned down to embers.

More than ten years later, one of them sought help for nightmares, and all four went through hypnosis sessions. Their accounts described big-headed beings and examinations inside a craft, and the case became a book by ufologist Raymond Fowler. Critics note that memories recovered through hypnosis, after so much time and with the case already discussed among them, are not reliable.
