Bonnybridge and the Falkirk Triangle

Disputed Bonnybridge, Scotland · since 1992

Bonnybridge, Scotland's UFO capitalA Scottish Odyssey

The account

The small Scottish town is said to have more UFO sightings than anywhere in the world, with hundreds of reports a year.

What investigators found

The area lies between the Glasgow and Edinburgh airports; planes, helicopters, celestial objects and the town's own fame explain much of the reports.

The story

In January 1992, a resident of the Falkirk area in Scotland reported seeing a cluster of bright lights hovering over the road. More reports followed, and the area around the small town of Bonnybridge earned the nickname Falkirk Triangle. Ufologists began claiming that around 300 sightings happen there every year, which would make Bonnybridge the UFO capital of the world.

The count comes from reports gathered by enthusiasts, not from an official survey. Skeptics point out that the town sits halfway between the Glasgow and Edinburgh airports, with constant air traffic, and that its fame draws people eager to watch the sky and report what they see. The nickname has become part of the local identity.
