The Calvine Photo
The account
A huge, motionless, diamond-shaped object was photographed over the Scottish mountains alongside a military jet.
What investigators found
The origin of the object remains unclear; hypotheses range from a hoax or a model to the reflection of a rock in water.
The story
In August 1990, two people near Calvine, in the Scottish Highlands, said they had photographed a diamond-shaped object hovering in the sky, with a military aircraft passing nearby. The photos were handed to a Scottish newspaper, which passed them on to the British Ministry of Defence. The images were never published, and the photographers never identified themselves publicly.
For three decades, the photo became a legend among ufologists. In 2022, researcher David Clarke tracked down a copy kept by a former Royal Air Force press officer, and the image was finally released. Independent analysts have proposed several explanations, such as a hoax, a suspended model or the reflection of a rock in a lake with the photo viewed upside down. None of them has been confirmed to this day.
