The Peruvian Air Force UFO Office
The account
Peru is said to be one of the few countries with a military office devoted to UFOs.
What investigators found
The department really exists; its job is to log and analyze reports, and its existence does not confirm extraterrestrial visits.
The story
In 2001, the Peruvian Air Force created the Office for the Investigation of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena, known by its Spanish acronym OIFAA, with the involvement of researcher Anthony Choy. The office went dormant for some years and, in October 2013, the FAP announced the relaunch of the Department for the Investigation of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena, under its Directorate of Aerospace Interests.
The goal announced by the Air Force itself was to gather and analyze sighting reports from Peru and around the world, such as those from Chilca, on the coast south of Lima. The move put the country alongside others that study the subject officially, such as Chile and France. Researchers linked to the office always stressed that most cases turn out to have ordinary explanations once investigated.
