The Falcon Lake Encounter
The account
A prospector touched a landed craft and came away with grid-shaped burns on his chest.
What investigators found
Canadian authorities investigated and reached no conclusion; skeptics raise the possibility of a hoax.
The story
On May 20, 1967, Stefan Michalak, a mechanic prospecting for minerals in the woods near Falcon Lake, Manitoba, said he saw two objects descend from the sky. One of them landed. Michalak said he approached, heard voices and touched the hull, when a blast of hot air struck him and set his shirt on fire.
He was treated for burns in a pattern of small squares on his chest and was ill for weeks. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Canadian military personnel examined the site and found traces of radiation in the soil, but could not explain what had happened. Skeptics questioned contradictions in his account, and the case officially remains unsolved.
