The Gulf Breeze Photos
The account
A businessman repeatedly photographed a craft that followed him and tried to communicate with him.
What investigators found
A model of the craft was found in the photographer's former home, and a young man said he had helped fake the images.
The story
In November 1987, builder Ed Walters handed the newspaper of the small town of Gulf Breeze, Florida, photos of an object with windows and a glowing ring at its base. Over the following months he presented new images and accounts of encounters, and the town became a magnet for the curious. The material led to a book, interviews and support from some ufologists.
In 1990, the new residents of Walters' former home found a small model in the attic that looked very much like the object in the photos. A young man from town also said he had helped stage the images. Walters denied any hoax and said the model had been planted, but most analysts came to regard the case as a fraud.
