Elizabeth Klarer and the Visitor from Meton
The account
A South African woman claimed she had a romance with a scientist from another star system and traveled in his spacecraft.
What investigators found
There is no proof at all; the account follows the pattern of 1950s contactees, with messages of peace and utopian planets.
The story
Elizabeth Klarer, born in the province of Natal, claimed that in the 1950s, in the Drakensberg mountains, she encountered a flying saucer piloted by Akon, a scientist from a planet called Meton, near Alpha Centauri. According to her, the two fell in love, she traveled to his planet and there she had a son.
Klarer told her story in lectures and in the 1980 book "Beyond the Light Barrier," and gained followers around the world. She never presented verifiable photos, objects or independent witnesses. Skeptical researchers place the case in the tradition of that decade's contactees, such as George Adamski, whose accounts featured beautiful beings, messages of peace and warnings about nuclear weapons. For science, it is a personal narrative with no confirmation whatsoever.
