The Alleged Kongka La Base
The account
An underground base for alien craft is said to be hidden beneath a disputed border in the Himalayas.
What investigators found
There is no evidence of any base; the area is militarized and off-limits, and the reported lights have ordinary explanations.
The story
Kongka La is a mountain pass more than five thousand meters above sea level, on the disputed border between India and China, in the Ladakh and Aksai Chin region. Because it is a closed, sparsely populated military zone, it became the setting for an internet legend: an underground UFO base that both governments are supposedly hiding.
Its fame grew in 2012, when the Indian press reported that soldiers on the border had seen luminous objects in the skies over Ladakh. The analyses cited at the time pointed to ordinary causes, such as very bright planets and aerial equipment. There is no verified photo, document or testimony of any base at all. The region's isolation and military secrecy explain why the rumor survives, but they do not confirm it.
