The Kumburgaz Videos
The account
A night watchman repeatedly filmed, up close, metallic objects that seemed to have figures inside.
What investigators found
Skeptics cite reflections, balloons and models; without independent access to the original footage, the case was never confirmed.
The story
Between 2007 and 2009, Yalçın Yalman, the night watchman at a vacation compound in Kumburgaz, on the Sea of Marmara coast near Istanbul, recorded luminous objects over the sea on several occasions. Using a powerful zoom, he captured metallic shapes that, to some viewers, revealed the silhouettes of beings inside.
A Turkish UFO group released the images as some of the clearest ever taken, and they spread around the globe. Skeptics point out that extreme zoom distorts ordinary lights and that reflections on glass, lit balloons or small models can produce similar effects. They also criticize the lack of independent analysis of the full raw footage. The result is a famous, widely shared case that still has no universally accepted answer.
