The "Alien Mummies" of Nazca
The account
Small three-fingered bodies found in the Nazca desert are said to be the remains of non-human beings.
What investigators found
Peruvian forensic experts concluded that figures of this kind are dolls assembled from animal bones and modern synthetic glue.
The story
In September 2023, Mexican journalist Jaime Maussan presented two small bodies with three fingers on each hand to the Mexican Congress, claiming they were non-human beings from the Nazca region of Peru. Similar figures had been circulating since 2017 in videos and mystery shows, and the hearing made headlines around the world.
In Peru, the government classified the pieces as a fraud. Peruvian forensic experts examined seized figures and concluded they were dolls assembled from animal bones, held together with modern synthetic glue. Archaeologists also warned that the trade in such pieces can encourage the looting of ancient sites and cemeteries in the region.
