The Abductions of Onilson Pattero
The account
A salesman was taken twice by a spacecraft, and the second time he turned up days later about a thousand kilometers from home.
What investigators found
The disappearance was real and reported in the news, but nothing proves the abduction, and other explanations were never ruled out.
The story
Onilson Pattero was a salesman in Catanduva, in the interior of São Paulo state. In 1973, while driving home at night, he said he was engulfed by a light and taken inside an object. In 1974, he said he lived through a second abduction. This time he was missing for six days and was found in Colatina, in Espírito Santo, about a thousand kilometers from where he vanished.
The case made national headlines, and Pattero stood by his story for the rest of his life, giving interviews to researchers and television stations. His disappearance and distant reappearance were documented facts, but there is no proof they had anything to do with a spacecraft. Skeptics have raised possibilities such as a dissociative fugue or travel by ordinary means, which have never been proven either.
