The Plains of San Agustin saucer

Speculation Plains of San Agustin, New Mexico, USA · July 1947

UFO and aliens at the second Roswell crash site, according to Barney BarnettEyes On Cinema

The account

An engineer and a group of archaeologists supposedly saw a crashed disc and bodies in the desert before the Army arrived.

What investigators found

The account came secondhand, after the alleged witness had died, and was never confirmed.

The story

In the 1970s, Roswell researchers heard a curious story from friends of civil engineer Grady "Barney" Barnett. Barnett had supposedly said, in private conversations, that on the Plains of San Agustin he came across a crashed metal disc with small bodies around it, along with some archaeology students. Military personnel allegedly sealed off the area and sent everyone away.

Barnett died in 1969, before he could be interviewed, and the details came only from third parties. Some ufologists argue there was a second crash site tied to Roswell; others point to conflicting dates and the absence of any archaeologist to confirm the case. For most investigators, San Agustin is a weak chapter in the 1947 legend.
