Police Officer Herbert Schirmer
The account
A patrol officer logged that he had seen a flying saucer and, under hypnosis, recalled being taken aboard.
What investigators found
The Condon Committee, which studied the case, concluded there was no evidence the episode had been physical.
The story
In the early hours of December 3, 1967, young police officer Herbert Schirmer was patrolling a road near Ashland when he saw lights hovering over the highway. Back at the station, he wrote in the logbook that he had seen a flying saucer and realized he could not remember about twenty minutes of that night.
Weeks later he was hypnotized as part of the Condon Committee, a UFO study funded by the Air Force. Under hypnosis, he described beings who took him inside the craft and spoke to him. The committee concluded there was no proof of a real event. Schirmer left the police force soon after and spent years as the target of jokes.
