The Socorro Landing
The account
A police officer saw an egg-shaped craft landed in the desert with two small figures beside it.
What investigators found
Blue Book kept the case as unidentified; skeptics suspect a student prank or an experimental test.
The story
On the afternoon of April 24, 1964, police officer Lonnie Zamora was chasing a speeding car in Socorro, New Mexico, when he heard a roar and saw a bluish flame in the desert. As he drew closer, he said he saw a pale, oval object standing on legs, with two small figures in white nearby. Moments later, the object rose with a loud noise and flew off.
Ground markings and scorched bushes were left at the site. Project Blue Book investigated, found no explanation and listed the case as unidentified. Later hypotheses suggest a prank by students from a nearby college or a prototype lunar landing module, but none of them has been confirmed.
