Cerro Uritorco and the Pajarillo Mark
The account
A craft supposedly landed near Uritorco and left a huge burned mark on the hillside.
What investigators found
The origin of the mark was never explained, and the area's fame rests on reports without independent confirmation.
The story
Cerro Uritorco, in the Córdoba hills, dominates the landscape of Capilla del Monte and has drawn people looking for lights in the sky for decades. In January 1986, after reports of a strong glow in the area, residents found a large patch of burned vegetation on the neighboring Cerro El Pajarillo. The image spread across the country and cemented the town as Argentina's UFO capital.
No conclusion was ever reached about what produced the mark, and hypotheses range from an ordinary brush fire to a hoax. Since then, Capilla del Monte has lived off mystical tourism, with nighttime excursions, legends of underground cities and esoteric groups. The reported sightings have no confirmation from independent sources.
