Victoria, the UFO town
The account
Since 1991, lights and spheres have reportedly appeared often over the lagoons and islands of Victoria.
What investigators found
There is no instrumental record; boats, fires on the islands, airplanes, celestial bodies and UFO tourism explain much of the reports.
The story
Starting in 1991, residents of Victoria, in Entre Ríos province, began reporting strange lights over the Paraná Delta, especially around Laguna del Pescado. The wave drew ufologists from all over the country and took from Cerro Uritorco the title of top destination for UFO hunters in Argentina.
The town embraced its fame: it gained a museum devoted to the subject, founded by researcher Silvia Pérez Simondini, and nighttime skywatches for tourists. The videos that circulate, however, generally show distant points of light. Skeptics note that boats, fires on the islands, airplanes and planets are common on that flat horizon, and that public expectation multiplies the sightings.
