The Antônio Villas Boas case
The account
A young farmer was taken aboard a spacecraft while plowing his land at night, in one of the first abduction reports in the world.
What investigators found
The case was investigated by physician Olavo Fontes, who recorded marks on the young man's body. There are no other witnesses and no physical evidence.
The story
On the night of October 15 to 16, 1957, farmer Antônio Villas Boas, 23, was plowing with a tractor in rural Minas Gerais when a light descended over the field. According to him, the tractor stalled, and small helmeted beings dragged him into a craft.
Inside, he said, he was examined, had blood drawn and spent hours with a strange-looking woman before being released. Physician Olavo Fontes examined him and recorded injuries and symptoms. The account, which predates the Hill case, is considered one of the first abduction cases in the world. Villas Boas went on to become a lawyer and stood by his story until his death.
