The lead masks of Morro do Vintém
The account
Two technicians climbed the hill for a contact with extraterrestrials, protected by lead masks, and never came back.
What investigators found
The deaths are a fact and were investigated by the police. The cause was never determined, and a link to UFOs is one of the hypotheses raised.
The story
In August 1966, a boy looking for his kite found two bodies at the top of Morro do Vintém, a hill in Niterói. They were Manoel Pereira da Cruz and Miguel José Viana, electronics technicians from Campos dos Goytacazes. They wore suits and raincoats and had crude lead masks next to their faces, like those used against radiation.
Near them was a note with times and instructions to swallow capsules and wait for a signal. The autopsy found no cause of death. A local woman said she saw a light over the hill that night. To ufologists, the two men were waiting for a contact. For the police, the case was never solved.
