The Voyager Golden Record
The account
A letter from humanity to whoever finds it, traveling forever among the stars.
What investigators found
The records are real and are aboard the Voyager 1 and 2 probes, the most distant human-made spacecraft, already beyond the Sun's influence.
The story
In 1977, NASA launched the Voyager 1 and 2 probes to study the giant planets. Each carries a gold-plated copper record, prepared by a team led by Carl Sagan, with images of Earth, sounds of nature, music from many cultures and greetings in 55 languages, including Portuguese.
On the cover, diagrams explain how to play the record and where Earth is located. In 2012, Voyager 1 became the first human-made object to enter interstellar space. The probes will stop working, but the records should last millions of years, like a message in a bottle cast into the cosmic ocean.
