Abduction: the Travis Walton caseEdison Boaventura

The account

A logger was struck by a beam of light from a spacecraft and vanished for five days, in front of six coworkers.

What investigators found

The crew passed some of their polygraph tests. Skeptics argue it was a hoax to escape a contract penalty. Nothing was proven.

The story

On November 5, 1975, a crew of seven loggers was heading home from work in an Arizona forest when they saw a glowing disc hovering among the trees. Travis Walton, 22, got out of the truck, was struck by a beam of light and fell. In a panic, his coworkers drove off. When they returned, he was gone.

Searches were carried out with police and volunteers, and the coworkers even became murder suspects. Five days later, Walton called from a gas station, confused, saying he had woken up inside a craft surrounded by beings. The case became the 1993 film "Fire in the Sky." Skeptics consider it a hoax. Walton stands by his story to this day.
